If you're on the street right now, here are a few tips that can help.
Go to your local library. Libraries are more than just books. They're a place to stay cool in the summer, warm in the winter, charge your phone, use free Wi-Fi, search for jobs, and find local resources.
Laundry Love β find local laundromats that will let you do laundry for free or low cost.
Reach out to churches. Even if they can't provide direct help, many can point you toward shelters, food pantries, clothing closets, transportation assistance, and other local programs.
Call 311. If you don't have an ID, ask what resources are available to help you obtain one.
Keep your important documents safe. If possible, store your ID, Social Security card, birth certificate, and other important papers in a waterproof bag or folder.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are people and organizations that genuinely want to help you get back on your feet.
Talk to your caseworker or social worker. Ask for a referral to Salvation Army and Goodwill for clothing.
Lost your ID? Talk to your case manager or social worker, or call 311 for assistance getting a new ID, Social Security card, or birth certificate.
